Preparing for Conference, Looking Forward

Who’s been eating their vitamin pills?

To those who see the restoration as something that “happened” in the past, President Russell M. Nelson has been making a powerful clarification. In an interview following the dedication of the Concepción Chile Temple this last fall, he said:

“We're witnesses to a process of restoration. If you think the Church has been fully restored, you're just seeing the beginning. There is much more to come. …Wait till next year. And then the next year. Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It's going to be exciting.”

Are you excited for conference?

We are. Even though life can get us all down sometimes, there is new strength we can find in the Lord and his goodness - something we have witnessed with our prophet.  As Sister Wendy Watson Nelson said of her husband in the same interview: “I have seen him changing in the last ten months. It is as though he's been unleashed. He's free to finally do what he came to earth to do.”

It might be worth asking ourselves: Are we doing what we came on earth to do? Are there other ways the Lord could also help us become “unleashed” to do more good around us - now, and into the future?

Sister Nelson added, “He's not afraid to do something different. If we're really preparing the Church and the world for the Second Coming of the Savior, he is sincere about that. He doesn't want us spending money, time, energy on anything that isn't really focused on that. It's pretty stunning.”

If that’s really what we’re preparing for, it’s clearly not just President Nelson’s job! In recent years, he has been increasingly pleading for us to see how much the Lord is eager to teach us, to comfort us, and to personally meet us as we “stretch beyond [our] current spiritual ability” (April 2018) and “beyond anything [we] have ever done before” (April 2017) to receive His revelation and power.

How can we refine our own focus as we look forward to the future, preparing our marriages, families and loved ones for whatever lies ahead?

Nephi anciently saw “the power of the Lamb of God…descend[ing] upon the saints” in our day and “upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth.” Honest question: Are we - each of us - ready to receive that “power of God in great glory” anticipated by both ancient and modern prophets? (1 Nephi 14:14).

We pray that the Lord can continue to work with us - helping to make us more consecrated, powerful servants. And as we anticipate the great contemplative retreat the Saints call “General Conference,” we pray the power that President Nelson and Nephi are referring to can come into all of our lives in greater abundance, so we can more effectively and joyfully do the work He would have us do.

Buckle up.  And get some rest.

This is going to be exciting.
